Felicia settled for a simple bowl of oatmeal and some salad.

"Are you still on a diet?" Max asked.

Catching the implication behind his question, she replied evenly, "I just don't have a big appetite in the mornings."

"You hardly ate anything for lunch yesterday either," Max pointed out.

Felicia kept her eyes on her food, carefully avoiding his gaze. She was doing everything in her power to avoid meats and anything with a strong scent. Even the thought of eating an egg turned her stomach right now.

With him sitting right there, she had to be extra vigilant to prevent any sudden bouts of morning sickness. She was strictly sticking to grains and vegetables, eating very little protein.

"The weather has been so hot lately. I just can't eat much," she explained casually. Looking up at him, she added naturally, "Unlike you, landing in the hospital every other day. Just focus on taking care of yourself. Don't let your body completely fail you."

The man's dark eyes glinted dangerously. "In what specific way do you think I might fail?"

Caught off guard, Felicia froze for a second before snapping, "Talk less. Eat more."

Suddenly struck by a surge of amusement, Max persisted. "If you don't specify exactly what's failing, how am I supposed to know what medicine to take?"

Felicia furrowed her brow in irritation. "Are you going to eat your breakfast or not?"

"I can eat perfectly fine while you answer my question," Max replied smoothly.

"I don't want to answer it," she stated bluntly.

Max looked down at their daughter. "Anne, your Mommy refuses to answer Daddy's question."

Felicia was completely speechless.

Anne obviously didn't understand what her parents were actually bickering about, but she unconditionally took her mother's side. "Then Daddy needs to ask nicely, and Mommy will answer."

Max looked up at Felicia's thunderous expression and smirked. "Alright then. Daddy will ask very nicely later."

He finally dropped the subject.

After they finished eating, Felicia packed away the containers.

They spent the entire morning keeping him company in the hospital room.

At one point, Felicia stepped into the hallway to call Jeremy and update him on the situation.

"Is it serious?" Jeremy asked.
