"I will," Danielle said, stepping forward to face Lorie with a determined look. "I am responsible for my own work. If there's nothing else, Miss Gaylord, we'll be leaving." With that, Danielle took Gian's hand and turned toward their car.

Lorie opened her mouth to say more, but Alexander stopped her. Lorie gritted her teeth. As she watched Danielle's car disappear from view, her anger flared up again. She shook off Alexander's hand. "Alex, why didn't you back me up just now?" she demanded. "Are you still thinking about her?"
