Gian’s heart leapt into his throat. He immediately stopped the compressions, gently guiding her onto her side and patting her back so softly it was as if she were made of glass.

"I've got you. Just breathe, take your time..."

Her eyelashes fluttered weakly before she slowly forced her eyes open.

Her vision was blurry, but she could make out the familiar outline of a man hovering over her in sheer panic.

It was the silhouette she knew by heart—his sharp brow, his straight nose. It was Gian.

She was still wildly disoriented, her body freezing and her throat burning like acid.

She tried to speak, but only a raspy, broken whisper scraped past her lips. "Gian..."

"I'm here! I'm right here!"

He answered instantly, reaching out to brush the wet hair from her face. His fingertips burned against her freezing skin. "You're awake. Thank God, you scared the hell out of me, Kirsten."

Danielle had already sprinted over after calling 911.

Shoving her phone into her pocket, she dropped to her knees beside them.

Seeing her best friend’s sickly pale complexion broke her heart. "Kirsten, how do you feel?"

"Don't be scared, the ambulance is on the way. Does anything hurt?"

Kirsten offered a weak shake of her head, but her gaze remained glued to Gian, as if she were terrified he would vanish the second she looked away.

Sensing her desperation, Gian shifted closer, shrugging off his heavy, wet suit jacket. He wrapped it tightly around her shivering frame, doing everything he could to transfer his body heat and warm her up.

Alexander stood a few feet away, sweeping his lethal gaze over the whispering crowd. His predatory eyes locked onto Ella, who was lingering near the shadows.

She stood there in her burgundy mermaid gown, a few water droplets splattered across her hem, proving she had been right at the water’s edge.

She surveyed the chaotic scene without a shred of guilt. Instead, a contemptuous smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.

Alexander’s eyes darkened into a dangerous, glacial glare.

He knew all too well how Ella operated. Kirsten's fall was no accident.

His stare was sharp as a blade, pinning her in place. The menacing aura radiating from him was so intense that the surrounding guests instinctively backed away.

Ella noticed his glare, but couldn't have cared less.

She simply arched a defiant eyebrow at him before turning her back and sashaying away into the ballroom, entirely unbothered by the chaos she had caused.

"That bitch!" Danielle hissed through gritted teeth, glaring daggers at her retreating back. "It was her! I know she pushed Kirsten! She's been staring at her like a psycho all night!"

Gian didn't say a word. He just cradled Kirsten tighter against his chest, resting his chin on top of her wet hair as he monitored her fragile breathing.
