The thin mist suddenly darkened into a heavy canopy of grey.

The wind picked up violently, whipping the branches into a frenzy, and the distant rumble of thunder rolled through the sky.

Danielle looked up, her expression tightening. "It's going to rain. Let's head back down a bit and find some shelter."

Alex glanced at the sky, his brow furrowing.

Just as he opened his mouth to tell everyone to turn back, fat drops of rain began to plummet.

Smack, smack. They hit the leaves, the stone steps, and the umbrellas with a fierce, heavy rhythm.

Visibility plunged as the wind violently hurled sheets of rain at them, and the temperature dropped sharply.

"Take cover!" Alex immediately stripped off his jacket, draping it over Niki and Raffy's heads, shielding one with each arm as he ushered them toward an overhang in the rock face that offered slight protection.

Danielle frantically opened her umbrella, but the wind was so vicious it nearly turned it inside out, offering next to no cover.

In barely a minute, all four of them were soaked.

Danielle shivered slightly, but her main concern was the children and Alex.

His injuries weren't fully healed, and his depression made him highly vulnerable to this kind of physical and emotional shock. If he caught a cold or got triggered, the consequences would be catastrophic.

Niki shrank into Danielle's arms in terror, while Raffy pressed his lips tightly together, his little face draining of color.
