"Stay away from my brother!"
Heather shoved Penelope aside and positioned herself firmly in front of Heath.
She glared at Theodore, acting as if he were the villain who had ruined their lives.
"Our dad is dead! You can ask us a million times, and our answer won't change. Just let it go!" With that, Heather grabbed Heath's arm to drag him away.
Desperate to escape his sister's suffocating control, Heath tried to pry her fingers off him.
"You really want to die, don't you? Fine, I'll go with you! You're the only family I have left anyway, and living like this is entirely pointless!" Heather hauled him back toward the bridge railing.
Heath dug his heels in and broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. "Heather, don't do this. I was wrong. I shouldn't have tried to die, I'm so sorry. Just stop, I can't take this anymore."
Tears streamed down Heather's face as she pulled her brother into a tight embrace. "Everything's going to be fine. Just trust me, it's all going to be okay."
"I trust you..."
"We'll leave Orenth."
"Okay..."
"We'll find a quiet place and live a good life."
"Okay..."
A look of desperate relief washed over Heather's face. But in the very next second, Heath suddenly convulsed in her arms. He collapsed onto the pavement, screaming in absolute agony.
"Heath! Heath, what's wrong?" Panic consumed Heather.
Penelope and Theodore were equally stunned, but Theodore reacted instantly and dialed for an ambulance.
Heath writhed and wailed in torment for several terrifying minutes before finally losing consciousness.
They rushed him to the hospital. His condition was far more critical than his previous collapse. Although the doctors managed to stabilize him, his transplanted heart was rapidly failing. He had reached the point where only another heart transplant could save his life.
"We'll do the surgery! We'll do it! As long as there's a chance, you have to save my brother!" Heather begged, clutching the doctor's arm.
