Charles nodded. “So far, everything we’ve found about Violet and Yuri’s life in Norway seems perfectly ordinary. When Yuri was ten, Miss Violet married a man.”

“Anything off about him?” Landon’s brow furrowed, his tone cold.

“That’s where things get interesting.” Charles continued, “The man’s name is Sawyer, a businessman. On the surface, nothing about his business raises suspicion. But when our people tried digging into Sawyer’s family background and how he made his fortune, we hit a wall. It's like someone invisible is blocking us at every turn. Even how Violet ended up in Norway and managed to hide her tracks—none of it adds up. Norway isn’t our turf, so if we want to look deeper, it’ll take time.”

The more Charles spoke, the more convinced Landon became—there was some deeper, unspeakable scheme lurking beneath all this.

Once Charles left, Landon turned to head back to the hospital room. But as he glanced down the hall, he spotted Yuri standing at the far end, silent and watching him.

Their eyes met. Landon’s sharp gaze locked onto Yuri.

Yuri snorted, one eyebrow arching as his eyes turned colder. “What’s the plan? You going to do to me what Zane did to my father?”

At that, Landon’s gaze sharpened dangerously.

“Did your mother tell you that?”

A frail, trembling voice sounded behind Yuri just then.

He turned to see Zane, supported by Yale, hands shaking and eyes clouded with emotion. Zane repeated the question, his voice cracking, “Did your mother tell you that your birth father died because of me?”

Yuri didn’t answer right away. He just watched Zane’s trembling lips, then suddenly smiled. “What’s wrong, Grandfather? Afraid to admit it?”
