The chauffeur felt a flicker of resentment, but Noelle’s words had genuinely rattled him.

Driving the CEO of the Ford Group paid several times more than any job he’d ever had. He wasn’t about to risk losing it over something foolish.

He sighed inwardly.

What was the boss even thinking? How could he not see that woman for what she really was—a fake angel if there ever was one.

Richie swallowed his frustration. But there was nothing he could say.

Ford Group.

“Sir, here’s the latest project proposal from the team. They’d like your feedback.”

Landon took the folder Charles handed him but didn’t bother to look at it, simply tossing it aside.

His usual cool gaze now held a trace of scrutiny as he looked at his assistant.

Charles shifted under the stare, suddenly feeling self-conscious. He glanced down, double-checking his shirt and tie. Everything looked fine—so why was the boss staring at him like that?

“Um… sir?” Charles ventured, his voice tentative as he swallowed nervously.

Landon broke eye contact and asked, with a studied nonchalance, “When you and your wife argue, how do you make it up to her?”

Wait. That’s it?

So he was right—yesterday, the boss had been distracted, fiddling with his phone. He’d guessed there was trouble with Mrs. Ford.

Looks like he’d hit the nail on the head.

Charles tilted his head, thinking it over for half a second, then shook his head. “Sir, I’ve never actually argued with my wife.”

Landon stared at him, silent.

After a beat, he deadpanned, “Do you want a medal for that?”

Well, alright then. End of conversation.

Charles nearly rolled his eyes. He was just about to make his escape when Landon, frowning, seemed to wrestle with something before admitting, “She… seems upset with me.”

He sounded uncertain—Zinnia hadn’t actually gotten angry or raised her voice. She was as gentle as always. But something felt off.

Seeing Landon so out of sorts, Charles thought there might be hope for him yet.

“Sir, women need to be coaxed sometimes. If Mrs. Ford is upset, just try to make it up to her.”

Coax her? Was he kidding? Landon barely had time to breathe, let alone play games.

He almost dismissed the suggestion, but instead asked, “How?”

Flowers, handbags, jewelry—those were safe bets, right? Can’t go wrong with those.

Charles was about to suggest as much but caught himself. Instead, he asked, “Sir, is Mrs. Ford allergic to flowers?”
