Vesta's expression faltered. She took a step forward. "Jasmine—"

Before she could say another word, Jasmine's driver smoothly stepped into her path. "Ms. Hawkins, please stop right there."

Vesta looked past him at the young girl, trying again. "Jasmine—"

Jasmine ignored her. She simply turned, pulled open the car door, and slid into the backseat.

Seeing his passenger safely inside, the driver immediately got behind the wheel.

Vesta watched the car merge into the busy traffic and disappear, her lips pressed into a tight line.
