I didn't answer, I didn't know how to answer. Because I didn't know how to describe how I felt.

"Maia." He says softly and reaches over to grab my hand, I intertwine our fingers on my lap. I love this man so much.

"I'm so sorry Austin." I say as the sobs threaten to escape my throat while tears fall from my eyes.

"Hey, Maia, I love you. Nothing is going to change that. You are the most precious thing in this whole world to me. This was not your fault okay? Do not blame yourself Maia." He says kissing the back of my hand.

I nod and try to stop crying as we pull up in front of the academy. The first person I notice is Tyson. He stands there with a frown on his face and his arms crossed.

I don't move from my spot as I stare at all the men gathered outside the main doors. Even though this is a pack, there are still wolves here from other packs attending the academy.

Austin opens my door snapping me out of my thoughts. I hadn't even realised he'd let go of my hand and it out of he car.

Taking his offered hand I step out of the car. I wrap my coat around me and lean against Austin, needing him next to me. His arm circled around my waist as we made our way into the academy.

"There will be a pack meeting in two hours, spread the word." He commands some men and they quickly run off. Sometimes Austin's alpha side surprises me.

He is never in alpha mode when we are alone but when there is a serious issue or we are with the entire pack he is very formal and intimidating.

We get into the house and soon my parents come over to me, they embrace me in a large hug. I hold my parents tightly, never wanting to let go.

They brought so much comfort, comfort that I never had growing up. My mom smelt like flour and baking powder whereas my father smelt like wood and pork.

"Maia." My mom cried as she held me tighter than imaginably possible. "I'm so sorry."

I don't reply. I don't feel like talking. Whenever I do at the moment, people just apologise for what happened or treat me like a china doll that will break at any moment.

I soon rush away from everybody to use the toilet, I sit on the closed toilet seat and take in a drop breath. Just as I was about to leave something flew in the door.

A piece of white paper folded up. I opened it.

...

Shit!

He growls and rips the piece of paper up then throws it in the toilet. "Nobody will hurt you Maia. I will die for you a thousand times if I must."

I shake my head and lean into his chest feeling the tears continue. I can't let him die, I wouldn't survive without him. I wouldn't want to live without him.

"No Austin," I whisper "I can't let you do that for me."

"It's my duty as your mate to protect you with my life and love you. I will willingly do that, I love you so much Maia." He says kissing my lips softly, I kiss back.

"I love you too Austin." I say placing my hand on his cheek "Can we please spend today alone, I can't handle the apologies and pitied looks."

"Of course we can my love." He says kissing my forehead then takes my hand. "How about a movie in our room?"

A smile graces my lips and I lean on his shoulder "sounds good."

He opens the door and I thought there would be people waiting outside but it was deserted. I, obviously confused, look up at Austin.

"You said you couldn't handle it, so I told everyone you needed time so they all left. It's just us." He says "well for about 10 minutes then they will be coming back in as it is the lack house."
