Mrs. Amelia glared at the masked man. “If you want to stay alive, stop asking questions. Take the money and walk away—after that, whether you kill Hale or run off with some girl, it’s your choice. But if you find out something you shouldn’t, you’re as good as dead.”

No matter what, Mrs. Amelia refused to speak.
