“So basically, you didn’t get anything out of Evelina?” Lemira shot back.

Lucian answered hesitantly, “For the past couple of days, Asher and I have had our hands full managing the Langston Group. Now that Evelina has transferred that sum out, the company’s facing major cash flow issues. We’re scrambling for ways to raise the money and help keep the company afloat.”

Evander was visibly shocked. “Lucian, is the company really in that much trouble? I mean, could Evelina moving that money really put us at risk? Isn’t our family supposed to be wealthy?”

Asher shook his head. “Sure, the group is valuable, but what we’re missing is cash flow. When Evelina suddenly took out such a large amount, it put us in a real bind. It’s not easy to suddenly free up that kind of cash.”

“But the company must have more money elsewhere,” Evander insisted. “There has to be something you can do.”

“There are other projects that need funding, too,” Asher retorted. “If those projects don’t get the money they need, the problems snowball. Eventually, the Langston Group could completely collapse. Do you get it?”

Right now, all Asher could feel was regret. Why had he trusted Evelina so blindly? He should have assigned someone to keep an eye on her—in that case, the funds never would have gone missing.

Evander finally began to grow anxious after hearing Asher’s explanation.

If the Langston Group really went under, what would he do for food and shelter? He definitely didn’t want to be poor.

“Asher, so what are we going to do? You’ve got to figure something out!”
