Lemira didn’t want to say any more and turned to leave the Langston Estate.

Once she was gone, Asher looked back at Evander. “You need to stay with Evelina at all times. She is not to leave the Langston family residence for even a moment. If she does, I’ll have you thrown out together with her.”

Evander felt his pride stung. “Asher, what are you saying? With everything going on, how could I possibly let Evelina wander around? Don’t worry. I may not be much help in investigating our parents’ deaths, but I won’t drag everyone down either.”

Asher, still seething, prepared to leave as well. Lucian followed him out, lowering his voice. “Should we put someone on Lemira’s tail? I have a strong feeling Mrs. Amelia’s disappearance is connected to them.”

Lucian looked astonished. “Asher, is anything really more important than finding out the truth about our parents’ deaths?”

Asher’s tone was edged with frustration, “If we can’t recover the money soon, we’ll have a major cash flow problem. The Langston Group could face bankruptcy!”

He couldn’t just stand by and watch the company he’d built fall apart.

Asher’s voice softened. “It isn’t that I don’t want to get to the bottom of our parents’ deaths. With Lemira and the Everhart family involved, she’ll be able to track down Evelina’s father—our involvement wouldn’t change much.”

“But still, even if it doesn’t help much, we can’t do nothing, can we?”

Lucian couldn’t accept just sitting on the sidelines.
