Hearing this, Lemira instantly grew anxious.

She instinctively turned to Orion. “What should we do now?”

Only moments ago, she had worried that Orion’s actions might be discovered by the Everhart family, but she hadn’t expected it to happen so soon. On second thought though, it made sense—Orion had relied on the Everhart family’s network, and now, after several days, Mrs. Amanda was bound to have uncovered some clues.

Orion himself was caught a little off-guard. In his mind, he’d used only his own connections, and his mother shouldn’t have been able to link everything back to him this quickly. Clearly, there was something going on behind the scenes that he wasn’t aware of.

He looked at Lemira and said, “You should go. I’ll handle things here.”

Regardless of what his mother had found out, this wasn’t the place for Lemira to be.

Lemira hesitated, concern written across her face. “Will you really be alright? After all, Mrs. Amelia is your mother’s close friend. If she learns what you did, she’ll be furious.”

“But even if Mrs. Amelia is her best friend, what she did—causing the death of your parents—was a crime. My mother will be angry when she learns the truth, but she wouldn’t cover something like that up.”

Still, Lemira couldn’t shake her uncertainty.

Orion met her gaze. “I’ll take care of this. But when it comes to sounding out Evelina, you’ll have to handle that yourself.”

Now that Mrs. Amanda knew, it meant more people were getting involved, and Orion needed to deal with whatever issues were about to arise within the Everhart family.

Lemira looked into those deep eyes of his, and, strangely, felt a wave of reassurance.

Before leaving, she couldn’t help but tug gently at Orion’s sleeve. “If your mother wants to see me, I’ll explain everything to her myself.”
