Asher pulled out a chair and slumped into it, looking utterly defeated. “You have powerful connections—everything is easy for you. But I’m not like you. Do you have any idea how many obstacles I’ve faced running this company all these years?”

Lemira remained where she was, unfazed. “You didn’t have to start a company at all. With the inheritance Mom and Dad left behind, you could live more than comfortably for the rest of your life. In the end, you’re driven by your own ambition—don’t blame them for it.”

“I did all this to uncover the truth about the car accident.”

“And now that you have, you want to take money from the Sinclair family. Stop pretending otherwise.”

Lemira fixed her eyes on Asher. “I know how arrogant and self-important you are, how hypocritical and quick to judge. But I never thought you’d abandon even basic self-respect when it came to our parents’ deaths.”

“How much is self-respect worth?” Asher’s eyes turned icy. “The Langston Group is in financial crisis. You found that driver but won’t share any information with me—did you really expect me to just sit here, doing nothing?”

“So you believe what Sophia said? That everything was the driver’s idea, and the Sinclair family had nothing to do with it?”

“I’m not so naïve as to take Sophia at her word. But I want to investigate for myself. Give me access to that driver.”

Asher had waited long enough. The Langston Group didn’t have much time left—he was desperate to find out what happened to the missing money, and if there was any chance of getting it back.

Lemira looked at Asher. “The money is gone. He gambled everything away. Back then, the driver was already deep in debt from gambling—that’s why Mrs. Amelia was able to buy him off so easily.”

“As if I’d just take your word for it,” Asher shot back. “You’ve never cared what happens to my company—you’d be glad to see it fall apart, wouldn’t you?”
