I woke to a pair of cold gray eyes already waiting for me. They were so close they swallowed my whole view.

Dominic lay shirtless on his side beside me, one arm tucked beneath his head, the other idly tracing invisible shapes on the pillow. He looked like he'd been watching me long enough to memorize the exact second my eyelashes fluttered awake.

"Hey," he said, his voice deep and sweet in the way winter could be sweet—beautiful, cold, and quietly deadly.

"Hey." I whispered back. My voice sounded small and tired and yet strangely at peace.

The window behind him was pitch-black. "How long was I out?"

"A couple of hours."

Shit. "Is Marovelle back?"

I didn't want to imagine that woman walking in and catching me and a shirtless man in her house. She'd burn the place down out of shock.

His lips twitched, the smallest hint of humor slipping through his calm. "Not yet."

I drew in a slow, steadying breath and let it out on a quiet sigh.

I glanced down at my naked self. I couldn't believe I was naked before a man. Dominic hadn't stuck his dick in me yet, but the things he did do… God have mercy. I never knew a man's mouth could be that talented. The thought alone almost had me burying my face under the blanket.

"How do you feel?" he asked quietly, tracing the line of my jaw with one gentle finger.

That didn't burn. Nothing about him burned anymore.

"Good," I breathed, and it came with a small smile I couldn't fight.

I held his gaze a little longer. "Thank you, Dominic."

"For what?"

For coming into my life, for respecting my body, for giving me a different opinion of men, for erasing my fear.

"For everything," I whispered.

His finger moved to my lips where it traced a warm line. His eyes followed the movement before it came back up. "I should be the one thanking you."

His lips lowered. I waited with anticipation and let out a small helpless sound when his lips met mine.

It only burned when he broke the kiss and left the bed.

"I'll be leaving now. There are a couple of things I need to handle," he said, grabbing his shirt from the small couch.

I sat up slightly, clutching the blanket to my chest, watching him move.

And that was when the tattoos caught me. An eagle stretched across his chest, its wings outstretched mid-flight. Smaller symbols and phrases etched around his ribs, his shoulder, disappearing down his arms They were all over the place. In a kind of way, they made him more attractive, but it wasn't the attractiveness that gripped me. It was something familiar; something I couldn't quite put my finger on.

He slid his shirt over his head and I blinked out of the trance. He took his jacket next.

"Bye, Dominic. See you soon."

He came over, gave me another kiss, and then he was gone.
