The little girl's name made its way to the rest of the Padilla family on the night the funeral ended. Everyone was bone-tired, spread out on the couches, the air thick with a quiet kind of sadness. With his father gone, Miles had let go of the last elder in his life. He felt hollow, like the backbone had been taken out of him, and in that single day, he looked years older. It’s true, what people say. When your parents are around, you always feel like you have a shield between you and the world. Once they're gone, you have to be the one holding up the sky. No matter how old you are, losing family is always scary. Miles was no exception.

The house was a mess. One of the security guards suggested bringing in the staff to tidy up, but Miles waved him off. They’d all been working hard for days. He told them to get some rest. Cleaning could wait until tomorrow. Once everyone else left, only the family remained.

Miles turned to Oliver. “Are you heading back to Riverdale tonight?”

“I’ll stay one more night. I’ll go back tomorrow.”

Miles nodded. “Did you tell Patricia?”

“I did.”

Miles hesitated, his voice softer. “Patricia just had the baby. Take good care of her, alright? This time, the family really let her down. There’s a penthouse in the Riverdale business district. Transfer it to her and the baby.”

He looked at his other two daughters-in-law. “Any objections?”

Katie and Selara shook their heads. “No, Dad.”

He glanced at Lydia, who nodded to show she understood.

“Have you picked a name?” Miles asked.

“We have.”

“Which one did you go with?” Miles asked, and everyone could tell he thought they’d picked from the list he’d made.

For a long moment, Miles just sat there. At last, he nodded. “It’s a good name.”

He repeated the line quietly to himself. “The mountains welcome the beautiful moon.” He smiled, just a little. “That’s right. A girl from the Padilla family should have a name like that.”

Jaxon finally let out the breath he’d been holding and grinned. “Sometimes the best names just come to you. It’s perfect, and it sounds great, too.”

“Absolutely!” Katie agreed. “Hope. It just sounds full of promise. She’s going to have an amazing future.”

That night, everyone went off to bed. Lydia came out of the shower and found Miles at his desk, flipping through his book of names. She walked over, teasing him with a smile. “Feeling hurt that Oliver didn’t use one of your names?”

Miles smiled back. “Not really. I figured he wouldn’t. Oliver’s always had his own ideas.”
