Chapter 900

Third Person’s POV

“Can’t it wait?” Avery said. “I have to run an errand right now, but I’ll be back in a couple of hours. I’ll go with you then.”

“That’s way too much trouble. I can handle it on my own. Remember? I pack a punch!”

Hearing that and knowing her fiery temper all too well, Avery finally gave in with a nod.

“Just be careful. Listen to me: do not step foot into the Blue Abyss Pack, and don’t touch a single thing they offer you to eat or drink. That bastard Raven is as shady as they come.”

“Got it. Man, you are such a nag.”

Paisley stepped through the threshold and made her way to the Blue Abyss Pack with Sadi.

Upon arrival, Paisley remained stationed outside the main gates.

Sadi and Maya directed the servants as they carefully excavated the flora, wrapping the root systems in damp burlap and stacking them neatly to the side.

The remaining provisions consisted of grain, cured meats, and an assortment of pristine, high-value garments.

Paisley inspected each item, sniffing for any lingering anomalies. Only after confirming the absence of suspicious scents did she grant permission for them to be packed and crated.

Even so, she resolved to have Tony or Mabel conduct a secondary sweep once the cargo arrived at the center.

As the loading neared completion and Paisley prepared to depart, Germain emerged from the estate.

He offered Paisley a polite nod, his alpha pheromones deliberately unfurling-sickeningly sweet, thick and cloying like honey. A hypocritical smile masked his features.

“I trust these supplies will offer some measure of relief to the she-wolves. In truth, our reserves hold a wealth of rare herbs as well. If you have a moment, allow me to escort you inside to make your selection.”

Every instinct in Paisley immediately went on alert. Within her, her wolf rose to her feet, baring her fangs in a low snarl.

“There is no need. Your guards can simply haul them out.”

Undeterred, Germain let his gaze linger on Paisley.

She wore a mauve, form-fitting dress that traced the striking contours of her silhouette.

After only a few moments of observation, Germain’s respiration grew shallow. When he spoke again, his voice had dropped to a hoarse murmur.

“You must be parched after laboring in the heat. Allow me to have a servant bring you some mead and berry pastries.”

Paisley suppressed a rising wave of nausea.

“I’m neither thirsty nor hungry. My thanks, Alpha.”

Germain’s eyes lingered on her cheek for a prolonged beat, the predatory weight of his pheromones thickening the surrounding air to a syrupy density.

“Very well, I will not press the matter. Carry on with your work. I have luggage to attend to, so I shall take my leave.”

Paisley exhaled a silent sigh of relief.

Managing the She-Wolf Center had quickly revealed the staggering weight of its daily overhead. Consequently, she, Adelaide, and Harper had reached an early consensus: while the center remained in its infancy and operated at a deficit, they would accept benevolent contributions from across all societal strata.

Seeing that the loading was virtually finished, Paisley turned to bid farewell to Sadi.

“Safe travels.”

Adelaide, meanwhile, was well aware that Germain’s household was scheduled to depart New York today.
