After their messy brawl, Brinley, Darleen, Sally, and Xenia were still seething when a maid delivered another piece of news.

“Tonight, the four of you will be sharing one room.”

The women stared in disbelief. Darleen and Xenia exchanged a look, and then Darleen’s gaze fixed on Brinley.

Brinley was equally stunned. Then, she erupted. “Share a room with them? Is Starla trying to kill me?”

She couldn’t believe Starla was unaware of the animosity between her and Darleen. To knowingly put them in the same room… Xenia was one thing, but Darleen? Darleen hated her guts. If they were forced to live together, what was to stop Darleen from murdering her in her sleep?

The maid shot Brinley a cold glance. “Even if Miss Starla wanted you dead right now, what could you do about it?”

Brinley’s face drained of all color. The maid was right. What could she do? This was the cruel reality. Not long ago, they had believed Starla’s fate was in their hands, that she was powerless to resist. Now, their own lives were firmly in Starla’s grasp.

“If she wants me dead, she should just get it over with! Why torture me like this?” Brinley shrieked, finally breaking down.

Just this morning, her mother, Harriet, had called and told her to keep her head down around Starla, to be submissive if necessary, and even try to help secure her release from Yoran Country. But judging by Starla’s attitude, that was clearly impossible. Every move Starla made was designed to torture her, to push her closer to the edge.

The maid chuckled. “Get it over with? When you were tormenting my lady, you never imagined a day like this would come for you, did you?”

Brinley had no reply. Back then, she truly never considered the possibility that Starla could turn the tables.

Seeing Brinley recoil from her as if she were a venomous snake, Darleen sneered. “No need to make a fuss. I’m more than willing to share a room with her. I’d be delighted!”

“Who wants to share a room with you? I don’t!” Brinley protested frantically. The last thing she wanted was to be near Darleen. She didn’t want to die.

“You don’t? Then why don’t you do something about it? Become the mistress of this estate, and you can live wherever you please,” Darleen taunted.

“You… you…” Brinley was so furious at Darleen's sarcastic tone that she felt she might faint.
