Xenia and Sally watched Darleen’s frenzy, too stunned to react.

Brinley felt as if her eardrums had burst; the world went silent and white. This life was unbearable, a misery beyond words.

“You dare to yell at me? You killed Faraday! Don’t you feel any guilt at all?” Seeing Brinley’s defiance, Darleen went completely berserk, launching into another flurry of scratching and hitting.

The basement was once again a chaotic scene.

It was Sally who finally came to her senses, slowly reaching out to pull Darleen away. “Mrs. Yelchin, please stop.” She was fed up with Brinley herself these past few days, but she had to make a show of it. After all, Harriet had sent her.

However, the very fact that she was Harriet's person was enough for the enraged Darleen, who spun around and slapped her too.

The sharp sting on her cheek left Sally momentarily stunned. When Darleen was this unhinged, it was dangerous for anyone to intervene. Sally was older, but Darleen showed no restraint. Not for someone who worked for Harriet.

“Don’t you dare try to stop me! Look where you are!” Darleen spat, kicking Sally for good measure. Still not satisfied, she dragged Brinley from the bed and started beating her again.

Pushed past her limit, Brinley forgot all her elegance and fought back with equal ferocity. The already chaotic basement descended into an all-out brawl.

Outside the door, two maids watched the scene unfold, a smirk playing on one of their lips. “I’ll go report this to Mr. Garret,” she said to the other. “You stay here and make sure no one dies.”
