"She booked a hospital appointment."

"A hospital? Is she sick?" Panic spiked through his anger. Marina City had the best medical facilities in the world; there was no reason to flee to Hansville for a checkup.

"She's in the OB-GYN department."

Despite Darian's reputation as a carefree playboy, his assistant was ruthlessly efficient. In record time, Shaw had tracked down exactly where she was and what she was doing.

The words 'OB-GYN' felt like a physical blow to Darian's chest. "What for?"

"She scheduled a pelvic ultrasound to check the fetus."

"The... fetus?" Darian stared at him, the words struggling to compute. "She's pregnant?" A sudden, euphoric rush of joy hit him, quickly followed by the sickening realization of her last text message. She was pregnant, and she was dumping him.

"Specifically, she's in the gynecology wing," Shaw clarified carefully.

"What difference does that make?"

"Obstetrics handles childbirth. Gynecology handles... other matters."
