Romy breathed a sigh of relief. Her main concern was that Starla might inadvertently give herself away.

Just as Romy stepped out, Darian's call came through. Starla had no idea how he'd gotten her number—likely from Tanya. Darian had so many men surrounding Tanya now that it was impossible to guard against every leak.

It was a shame, really. If Darian had used even half of this effort to suppress the media, the smear campaign wouldn't have raged in Marina City for three straight days.

Starla answered the phone. "Hello."

"Starla," Darian said. Since they hadn't gotten to the point yet, his tone was relatively respectful.

"I'm not sure I deserve such a polite greeting," Starla replied coolly.

"I want to know where Yulisa is."

Tanya didn't have the resources to pull this off, so whoever took Yulisa had to be Starla's people.

"Between you and Tanya, who do you think I'd help?" Instead of answering his question, she countered with a sharp one of her own.

Her retort made Darian's breathing heavy over the line. "Yulisa isn't what you think she is. She shouldn't be the target of Tanya's anger. You're an outsider looking in—you should be able to see things clearly. I hope you'll talk some sense into her."
