Natalie’s glare could have burned a hole straight through York. She didn’t bother hiding how much she hated him. Right now, she couldn’t stand the sight of him. This man was pure evil.
“Oh, by the way, there’s something I forgot to mention. Ethan got into a terrible car accident while he was out of town for work. He was badly hurt, almost didn’t survive. He spent a week in the ICU before he barely pulled through.”
The news hit Natalie like a punch.
Ethan in a car accident? When did that happen?
No wonder he’d been gone for so long. Now it all made sense. He wasn’t just away for work. Something had happened to him.
Did Isabella know about this?
“How do you know?” Natalie asked, suspicion prickling at her. She stared hard at York and asked again, “Did you have something to do with it?”
York didn’t admit to anything. He just shrugged it off. “I’m not that powerful,” he replied easily.
He added, “It was just an accident. Apparently, he’d just heard Isabella agreed to date Harold and he was distracted. Then, boom, the crash happened. His luck must be insane. Even after a wreck that bad, he made it. His driver, though, died on the way to the hospital.”
Natalie shook her head and muttered, “Ethan’s always been lucky. He just seems to escape the worst every time.”
She spun around and hurried out.
Of course, as usual, she was blindfolded with a strip of black cloth before being walked outside and allowed to get out of the car. When she finally pulled off the blindfold, she found herself standing by her own car. The two men in black who’d brought her back were already gone, their car lost somewhere in the busy traffic. There was no way she’d find them if she tried.
A few minutes later, Natalie got into her own car and drove straight over to The Adams Group.
