Susan helped Jennifer carry her suitcase upstairs, trying to talk some sense into her. “Why are you so hung up on Isabella? The money she's using to invest isn't from the Adams family, it's from Ethan.”

“If you stop Isabella from running her business, any losses still come out of the Adams family's pocket. You could just sit back and watch. Running a business isn't easy. If she messes it up, she'll give up eventually. She'll have to let it go.”

Jennifer’s voice was sharp, full of resentment. “Why should she get to do something I never could?”

She didn’t want Isabella to succeed. That freedom Isabella had? Jennifer never had it. Even as the lady of the Adams family, she still felt boxed in. Sure, she was a bit freer than before, but there were more things to worry about now. She always had to protect the family’s reputation, take care of their interests. Gone were the days when she could be reckless, even just once in a while.

Susan didn’t say anything after that. She finally got it. Jennifer was jealous, plain and simple. She hated that Isabella had Ethan’s support to go after what she wanted.

Once they reached the room, Jennifer immediately started nitpicking. She spotted a single hair on the floor, then stormed over to Isabella’s door and knocked loudly, demanding she come clean the room again.

Isabella opened the door.

“Isabella, my room isn’t clean. I found a hair on the floor. Go and clean it again,” Jennifer said, sounding all high and mighty. “I told you I’m a clean freak.”

Isabella took a breath, trying to keep her cool. “If you really saw a hair, take a photo and show me, or just pick it up and bring it here. Then I’ll believe I missed a spot. Jennifer, if you want to make things hard for me, just say it. I know you don’t like me.”

Jennifer scoffed, “At least you know. I can’t stand you.”
