Deborah had a son, and even though she knew Jackson would never let her or her boy go without, she still couldn’t bring herself to just sit back and rely on him. Instead, she liked to team up with her girlfriends to invest in small businesses here and there. She had her money working for her, tucked away in all sorts of financial plans.

Even if Jackson stopped giving her that million-dollar monthly allowance, she’d still be bringing in a few hundred thousand every month on her own. That added up to nearly ten million a year, the kind of money her relatives back home could only dream about.

Naomi called and asked, “Did Mandy go over to your place? Her mom didn’t mention it. I asked her, and she just said Mandy was out job-hunting with a friend, so I didn’t push for more details. If Mandy’s staying with you, maybe you could help her out a little—give her some money, help her find a place to rent. If she moves out, she won’t get in the way of things between you and Jackson.”

Naomi was clearly worried Mandy would somehow mess things up for Deborah and Jackson. She continued, “Deborah, you need to get that marriage certificate with Jackson as soon as you can. He promised he’d marry you after his divorce, right? Once you’re officially married, you can finally relax.”

“I’ve tried talking to him about it, but I can’t push too hard or he’ll get annoyed,” Deborah sighed. “Jordan is totally against us getting married. We were supposed to pick a date to register soon, but then Natalie got herself into trouble and ended up detained and fined. Now Jackson says he’s not in the mood and wants to put the marriage off for a bit.”

She was beyond frustrated.

Why couldn’t Isabella just sue Natalie and put her away for a few years? That would have solved a lot. But she couldn’t really blame Isabella. Ethan was always protecting Natalie, and right now, Isabella just didn’t have the power to stand up to him.

Deborah couldn’t figure out what kind of spell Natalie had cast on Ethan to make him so hopelessly loyal. No wonder Isabella was determined to get divorced. Running into Ethan and Natalie was just about the worst luck anyone could have.

Naomi tried to reassure her. “Jackson really loves Kevin. Now that he’s divorced, he’ll definitely marry you for Kevin’s sake.”

She drove to The Lane Group to pick up Mandy. When they met, Deborah put on her most caring, concerned face, acting every bit the loving cousin. Mandy was still young and honestly, way too green. Deborah could tell right away that Mandy was hiding something, but she kept calm and didn’t let it show. She brought Mandy along to see Jackson and said, “Jackson, I’m going to take Mandy home, get her settled, then start lunch. You can come back for lunch. This afternoon, I’ll take her out shopping for some new clothes and help her get familiar with the area. That should make it easier for her to find a job later.”

Jackson nodded. “Alright. Take good care of Mandy.”

Deborah led Mandy out of the office and when they reached the elevator, they ran into Jordan.

Jordan already knew Mandy was at The Lane Group. He pretended he was there to see his dad, but he was really just checking out the situation. Mandy’s eyes lit up the moment she saw Jordan.
