Jackson called for the housekeeper.
She had already set up Natalie’s room and wanted to come downstairs, but when she saw Deborah and Natalie arguing at the stairwell, she froze. The last thing she wanted was to get caught between them, especially now that Natalie could explode at any moment, cutting their pay or withholding bonuses for the slightest reason.
In her mind, the housekeeper blamed Mr. Adams for Natalie’s foul mood. He hadn’t come by in ages, and people were saying that he barely seemed to care anymore. Natalie had always been spoiled by both Jordan and Mr. Adams, but now Jordan was always busy and Mr. Adams was nowhere to be seen. To make things worse, she couldn’t stand the fact that Mr. Adams was treating the former Mrs. Adams so well these days. No wonder her temper was getting so bad.
When Jackson’s voice echoed again, the housekeeper jumped and hurried down.
“Go get some ice, will you? Deborah’s face is swollen on both sides. I’ll help her with it.”
The housekeeper glanced at Natalie, who was sitting there with a stormy face, and hesitated. But Jackson’s sharp tone cut through the tension and the housekeeper rushed to the kitchen.
Natalie didn’t want to stand there and watch Jackson taking care of Deborah. She got up and headed for the door.
“Natalie.”
She paused in the hallway when Jackson called. He looked at her and said, “I know about the trouble you caused today. You really need to start being careful.”
“The Gates family and the Lane family are working closely together. If you go running back to your family and say something that stirs up problems, think about the consequences. If things fall apart, both families could lose a lot.”
Natalie got the message. If she went home to complain and it turned into a real feud, The Gates Group would be hit just as hard as The Lane Group. She knew the stakes.
She turned to look at Jackson. “Dad, what trouble did I cause?”
“Haven’t you checked what’s trending today?”
Trending? Everything online today was about Isabella. What did that have to do with her?
