Of course, people still had to mind the hail but, after so many days, the territory could now announce when it was coming about half-an-hour before it happened.
The hail usually happened an hour or two before dusk, too, which was around the same time as before the disaster.
Unlike many Terran winters, where it occurred because the planet was far from the sun, this Cold Wave didn’t have anything to do with star alignment. It was just the world making them suffer. Hence, the time of the sun and the time of darkness were about the same.
So, with information on hand, and after getting used to the cold and the disasters, people above level 15 or so would often be found outside to get some fresh air and stretch their muscles. Although they didn’t do it every day, they did it every few days
They also needed to get out to clear the snow off their roofs and surroundings, to prevent themselves from being trapped inside every few days. The buildings and houses chosen by Althea were the superior kind, so they were not in danger of imploding if snow piled up. However, it’d be a hassle whenever they had to go out, so people made it a habit to clear the areas around their homes.
In fact, it was a matter of pride for some as well. When the Extreme Heat was happening, their levels were too low, and going out like this was too dangerous.
They had no choice but to be trapped in the stifling environment indoors. At the time, many were willing to head out to breathe just for a change of environment, but who told their levels to be so low?
Now...they could head out occasionally, even when the extreme disaster was ongoing, even if it was just for a couple of minutes to an hour, because this meant that they had really grown stronger compared to before.
In turn, it gave even stronger feelings that this disaster was just a passing inconvenience to them. And, with their newfound strength, it wasn’t anything that should cause anxiety.
The aborigines experienced this type of approach and attitude to the Cold weather for the first time, and they were fascinated.
The cold was generally much more dangerous than the heat, after all, you could lose your fingers if you stayed out for too long.
However, the brighter side of this cold weather was unlike in the heat wave where monsters would get active at night. In the cold, they would practically hibernate the entire time, and those who were awake had very slow movements as if their joints froze, so the only problem really was the cold.
Another big problem most faced during this disaster was food. In the cold, most outside would be inedible and destroyed, but at least the food that they did stock had longer shelf lives.
In Alterra, each household had a good amount of stock, some could maybe last months, not to mention the warehouses—system and manual ones—were filled.
Alterra also had a lot of large, functioning greenhouses, and this meant...fresh food! How many could say they had fresh food in the middle of the Extreme Cold? Not many!
