Nyla's eyes widened in surprise... those beautiful eyes and the way they looked up at me. For a second, I thought she looked happy to see me. She started eating faster to leave. When Rachel was telling her stories, she was too engrossed and didn't touch her food.
"Here." Rachel gave me my usual smoothie.
My mom used to make a disgusting drink with whey and kale for me and my brother when we were young and in training. She did that until two years ago when she got killed. Rachel hated it and always poured it down the sink but now makes it every day and gives me a big glass full.
"Oh, you are full already?" She asked Nyla who was preparing to leave.
"Ari needs to be fed. Her stomach is getting upset if the wet nurse and I are switching." She was gulping down her coffee quickly.
"Ari... what is it for? Aria?"
"Ariyana." Nyla looked at me for a second before replying to Rachel.
Wow! I didn't know she would name her baby something like that. She really hates me.
"Ariyana has such a nice ring. What does it mean?" Rachel asked her innocently, but Nyla didn't reply.
"It means silver," I told her and walked out of the kitchen after dropping the tall blender cup in the sink. I wanted to leave before Nyla did. She was probably enjoying Rachel's company. One of the bodyguards told me she wanted to stay longer at Ren's place to talk last night.
"Wait a second!" Rachel got up from the chair and ran to catch up with me.
"What happened? How long will you be gone for?" Looks like Finn already told his sister and now Rachel found out.
"I should be back by Thursday."
Nyla dropped her plate when carrying it to the sink. I wanted to kiss her before leaving. But that would be too much after how last night went down.
"But you promised to be there when I buy the car!"
When was that again? I vaguely remember agreeing to something like that. Rachel has been test driving a dozen cars a week and not liking any. She's so tiny but wants a muscle car.
"You don't remember at all! It was this coming Tuesday...!" She threw her hands in the air just like mom used to.
"We can go on Friday, I promise."
"That's almost a week away!"
Of course, we had cellphones, but either there was no reception or he was too busy to answer calls most of the time. Whenever I called, it was Vance or someone else who would tell me Wyatt would call back soon. Soon was after several hours while his pack members could reach out to him any moment by just opening their mind link.
I had no idea where Kian went to or how he was doing. I asked Rachel, and all she knew was that he went away for some pack affairs, which he usually let Ryder or Finn handle. He probably wanted to stay away from me.
Who told him he could decide these things on his own?
I suppose he was sulking at me for the slap because he refused to look at me for more than a second when he got back from training. Walking in with that hot sweat-drenched face and looking out of breath, he thought that was the best time to ignore me, while my body was screaming to go close to him, real close, and make up for pushing him away.
Ari kept me busy, but that was not enough to push his thoughts away. I did a lot of things to fill my days with things and people. Car shopping with Rachel, a trip to the grocery store with Olivia, and rearranging the garden beds with Ren. Nothing was enough to make me forget him for more than a few seconds.
Rachel brought him up in her conversations and lot. My heart skipped a beat when she said, "He asked me if you were okay."
"Of course, doing better than ever!" What else can I say? That I miss him like crazy and can't go a minute without thinking about him?
Staying away was supposed to help me clear my thoughts. Maybe it was helping him. My chest suddenly tightened at the thought of him forgetting me and not giving a damn about my existence.
I'm supposed to make him suffer. I already know he would lose his mind if anything happened to Rachel. With his mom and Leah gone, whatever bit of humanity remains in him is because of his chirpy little sister. I should take her down next. But the thought feels as painful as imagining something happening to Wyatt's sister, Skylar.
