~Kian~
Didn't she want me to mark her and make her the Luna? I thought that's what she asked me when we fought on the night of Rachel's First Kill.
I expected anything but a weak 'Oh' from her. She was wide awake when she heard me, and now she was pretending to have fallen asleep already. I could think of a lot of ways to wake her up and keep her screaming for the rest of the night. But she looked tired. I held onto her tightly, scared that she would disappear.
This was a big step: introducing her to my dad as someone important rather than what he called 'a hole to fill'. He was absolutely going to throw a fit and would want me to pick an alpha female from either the White Claw Pack or the Moon Valley Pack. Both these pack Alphas had daughters who were above eighteen. The day Alpha Garrett went missing, my dad already decided Adalyn was of no use.
I was unaware until recently that Nyla wanted more from whatever our relationship was. I would have refused if she was a human. With the expert way she drank my blood, now I was sure she wasn't so helpless.
I would of course lay my life to protect hers, but I definitely didn't feel as scared anymore about keeping her safe. She might be a wrecking ball for all I know.
If she really had anything to do with Ryder, Garrett, or anyone else's disappearance, she was the one we needed to be safe from. I will find out soon... this full moon night will be the night to unmask her truth.
We spent another wonderful day at the Golden Dells. Nyla loved it here, but it had nothing on Western Cascades. This was too city like in comparison. My place had an urban feel without losing the wilderness and natural beauty. Even the beaches here weren't as pretty.
Nyla wanted to eat at a beachfront seafood restaurant. She took me to a place that was Wyatt's favorite. We had come a long way in just two days, and I couldn't help smiling at her adorable face as she reminisced about some funny things Wyatt used to say. She no longer hurled hurtful words at me when he came up.
"How did you two meet?" This was something I was dying to know. They obviously had a meet-cute story unlike how we met.
"Let's take a walk on that pier. It goes so much farther into the ocean. I love it!" She ignored my question and sprinted towards the long wooden structure.
On her way, she stopped by an ice cream shop and picked the same flavor she got yesterday. Every time I asked something she didn't want to answer, she talked nonsense.
"This is delicious!"
"Ooh, I got a brain freeze."
"Ice cream is the best invention ever!"
Now I understood why she had asked for so many scoops. She was acting like it would never melt and she would go on eating it until I stopped asking questions.
"Did Wyatt give you his blood too?" This question came more out of jealousy than curiosity. I wanted to believe she was all mine and never anyone else's. Weird but I couldn't help it.
"I think this salt in the air is making it even more delici---" I snatched the waffle cone from her and threw it far away.
"How dare you? Buy me another one!"
We didn't speak for several minutes, holding each other. Her heart was still pumping.
"I don't want to leave you. I'll miss you..." She choked on her sobs, holding me tighter.
"I'd never leave you. What are you so afraid of? Dad won't be happy, but it's not like I'd listen to him and push you away. I promise I'll handle it well."
She looked up at me with frightened yet clueless eyes. What else was bothering her so much if not the talk with my dad?
Her mood significantly improved when we returned to the hotel, and she acted like none of it happened once we flew home.
What my dad said was shocking. He went entirely still for a few seconds before nodding his head in approval. I could only wish for a miracle like this.
"If you think she would make a good Luna, who am I to stop you."
Seriously? It was too easy, too good to be true. He didn't even ask me for details about her. All he wanted to know was who it was. Not at all a good sign.
"The next full moon is too soon. We will plan it well and do it the following full moon night. That would give us plenty of time to announce to everyone as well. Sounds good?"
