Only then did Isabel remember she hadn't asked him if he had someone he liked.

"I can go explain to old Mr. Reed..."

Julian cut her off. "Don't bother explaining anything. I don't have anyone for now, but if you take too long, that might change."

"Dear," he said with a roguish smile, his charming eyes full of both affection and mischief. "Think about the two things you want. Bye~"

Isabel watched the car drive away until it was out of sight, then threw the ruined food in the trash. Suddenly overcome with a wave of frustrated anger, she kicked the trash can hard.

She wanted to hurry things along, but it wasn't up to her.

No! If there was still no movement from Adrian in another month, she would have to find another way.

...

Just as Isabel's figure disappeared into the elevator, a shadow emerged from the side of the main entrance.

A young man's face was clouded and unreadable as he made a call. "Grandpa, did you know Julian is going to marry Isabel?"

"What?!"

Old Mr. Reed was a bit surprised when he received the call from old Mr. Foster.

He couldn't imagine why he would suddenly call.

Isabel should have arrived in Westbridge by now. Julian was a rascal, but if he promised to get her there safely, he would.

He answered, confused. "What is it?"

Old Mr. Foster immediately started yelling at him. "You old coot, you're poaching!"

Old Mr. Reed wanted to hang up. "I'm not interested in your dead wife."

"I'm talking about Isabel!" Old Mr. Foster was fuming, his breathing heavy. "You're letting her marry that roguish grandson of yours, and you didn't even ask me?"

Old Mr. Reed frowned. "Where did you hear that? Isabel isn't even divorced yet. We can't let that rumor spread."

"Where else? From your grandson's own mouth." Old Mr. Foster's anger was still simmering, but he continued, "Don't worry, it won't get out. Only my useless grandson heard it, and he came to me all upset."

Old Mr. Reed understood. He said, "Your Dylan isn't good enough for Isabel. He's fine as a partner, but as a husband, he's lacking."

Old Mr. Foster didn't like the sound of that. "And your grandson is?"

There was something old Mr. Reed didn't say. He felt that Adrian's attitude toward Isabel was... strange.

Just as Isabel closed her locker, Amanda's face popped into view.

"Isabel."

"What's up?" she asked, locking the door and pulling out the key.

Amanda looked a little sheepish.

That was rare.

She had seldom seen her senior colleague look embarrassed.

"Just spit it out. You're already here. I'll be the judge of whether I can do it or not."

She could tell Amanda was about to ask for a favor.

Amanda clasped her hands together, her eyes pleading. "It's about Leo. He has a kindergarten activity tomorrow, something with the parents. But I have a conference to attend, and I'm flying to Haldenport in a bit. His dad just left on a business trip yesterday, and the grandparents are worried he might get hurt during the activities and they couldn't handle the responsibility, so..."
