“No, it’s not that… Hey!”
The blond man was dragged out by Julian.
Once in the living room, he slapped Julian on the thigh. “Do you remember me telling you my uncle lost a daughter? Doesn’t she look just like him?”
Julian lit a cigarette. “She grew up in this country, with a mother and a grandmother. How is that possible? Did your uncle have an affair?”
“No way. My uncle and aunt are madly in love. I’d have an affair before my uncle would.”
“There you have it,” Julian said, taking a drag. “She has a father, too, even if he’s as good as nonexistent. She can’t be part of your family.”
“You never know. Our family is… complicated, an international mix. Back then, there was a lot of internal conflict. My uncle was so brilliant, he was everyone’s target. They went after his newborn daughter to control him, but then she was lost, taken by some enemy.”
“Maybe she died.”
“Hey!” the man protested, slapping him again. “Have some decency. I believe my cousin will come back someday.”
“Fine.”
He then switched to gossip. “So who’s the woman you brought back?”
Julian briefly explained Isabel’s situation, since she needed a new identity anyway. “Why don’t we just say she’s your cousin? Since you think she looks like him, let your uncle meet her. If he takes a liking to her, he can make her his daughter on paper.”
“Oh.” The blond man suddenly put on an air of seriousness. “Are you sure about that? If she’s the wife Old Mr. Reed found for you, and she ends up in our family, marrying her won’t be so easy.”
Julian shot a kick at him. “Get lost.”
The blond man was used to it. “Alright, let’s set up a dinner for her and my uncle.”
Julian grunted in agreement. “So, did you just come here to gossip?”
“Not entirely.” The blond man got down to business. “I heard Richard’s partnership with the Blackwell Group fell through.”
Julian understood. “You want to make a play for the Blackwell Group?”
Since Julian had a guest, she didn’t want to bother him, and she wasn’t familiar with the staff yet.
She hadn’t expected to hear that.
The blond man seemed to take an instant liking to her and started chatting.
The news online had been limited, and even though Isabel had posted her marriage certificate, the Blackwell family had quickly suppressed it. Only the news of the marriage had spread.
Her face had been shown at the press conference, but after the plagiarism accusations, all photos and videos of her were taken down by Old Mr. Foster to protect her.
As a result, her face wasn't widely recognized in the country, let alone in Aurelia City or abroad.
This man was clearly a foreigner, or at least of mixed heritage.
“Don’t you think she got what she deserved, sis?”
