So she had none left.
“I can make more.”
As she said it, she shot a look at Julian.
That meaningful gaze made Julian feel a bit sheepish. He quipped flippantly, “What, admiring your handsome future husband again?”
Isabel walked right up to him and started trying to rip his shirt off.
Julian quickly grabbed her wrist, amused. “We have company, dear.”
Isabel frowned. “My right hand…”
Only then did Julian remember. Her right hand was precious; though it had healed, it couldn't withstand a strong grip. And his grip was naturally powerful.
He immediately let go.
Before he could apologize, his shirt was torn open.
“...”
Evelyn cooed, “Ooh la la~”
Isabel saw the injuries covering his torso, and her eyes instantly reddened. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
She had wanted to check on him the moment she woke up, but he was always dashing in and out, and she never got the chance. Besides, he had seemed perfectly fine. If the doctors hadn’t accidentally let it slip while discussing her case, she would have never known.
Julian didn’t mention that Martha was being watched by Adrian’s men. It seemed that bastard didn’t fully believe Isabel was dead. Just as he thought—that son of a bitch wasn’t nearly as calm and indifferent as he appeared. It had taken considerable effort to shake all the tails and bring Martha over safely.
“Just wait here at home. You can’t be running around right now anyway. It’s perfect timing. You and your friend can pick out a dress. Tonight, we’re going to the Durantins’.”
With that, the man strode away.
Evelyn let out a little sigh. “Well, well. You didn’t tell me you were marrying Mr. Reed.” She wore a knowing, shipper’s smile. “Mr. Reed is so good to you.”
Isabel didn’t deny it. “He just seems unreliable, but he’s actually been very good to me since we met. But don’t get any ideas. We’re just like siblings. The marriage is for Old Mr. Reed.”
Evelyn didn’t press the issue. Some feelings were best left for the people involved to discover on their own; it made for a better story.
“Now, let’s talk business.”
