But Isabel never expected that the child who had fought with Amanda’s son was Oliver.

Oliver didn't expect to see her either, and a flicker of pleasant surprise crossed his face.

But he quickly masked it with defiance, telling his teacher, Miss Turner, “Didn’t I tell you to call my dad?”

Miss Turner had assumed Isabel was busy. The last time she saw them together, the mother-son relationship seemed tense.

And lately, it had been Adrian and a gentle, elegant woman who had been dropping Oliver off.

She knew better than to pry into the affairs of the wealthy.

So when Oliver asked her to call his dad, she had called Adrian.

She never thought Isabel would be the one to show up.

“Oliver’s mother...”

Isabel heard Oliver’s comment. She explained calmly to the teacher, “I’m here on behalf of Leo’s mother to see what happened.”

Miss Turner was stunned.

Oliver hadn’t expected that either. A surge of anger washed over him, and he charged at Isabel.

Isabel stumbled back from the impact, and as she twisted to protect her right hand, she lost her balance.

Dylan caught her.

He had to avoid her right side, which made it awkward to grab her left arm, so he ended up steadying her by her back.

At that moment, a man and a woman entered.

The man was tall and imposing in a custom-tailored black suit. The woman wore a camel-colored coat, her long hair draped over her shoulders. They looked perfectly matched.

From their perspective, it looked as if Dylan was embracing Isabel.

Isabel didn’t receive the message. She didn’t even look at Adrian. Instead, she asked Miss Turner, “What exactly happened?”

Miss Turner wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead and answered truthfully, “It was Leo. He accidentally knocked over Oliver’s toy, but he picked it up and apologized...”

Given Adrian’s status, she quickly added, “Perhaps because Oliver has been sick recently, he wasn't in a good mood, and they started pushing each other.”

Isabel’s gaze swept past Oliver and landed on Leo’s face. “Pushing each other? Then why does my friend's son have a scratch on his face?”

“Well...”

Isabel didn’t press the teacher further. She turned to Adrian. “Since Mr. Blackwell’s son was in the wrong, he should apologize and cover the medical expenses.”

Adrian stared at her, his voice heavy. “You ignore your own son to defend another child? Is this how you act as a mother?”

Isabel met his gaze. “I am here today on someone else’s behalf. Besides, you have custody of the child. Everything concerning him is your responsibility.”

Adrian’s lips pressed into a thin line. “So, you’re no longer his mother?”
