Alexander couldn’t figure it out either. It wasn't just Sophie who was in an awkward position now.
Looking back, it seemed only the old matriarch had seen things clearly in the end.
Her reasons for arranging the marriage between Isabel and Adrian weren’t entirely without merit.
“Don’t worry too much about it. It’s not certain they’ll go back to how they were. From what I can tell, your aunt still seems determined to get a divorce.”
Sophie said unhappily, “I hope they do get divorced. Then I won’t have to worry about her retaliating against me for what I said just because my uncle likes her now.”
Alexander hadn’t known Isabel well before, but the X-1 press conference had changed his opinion of her somewhat. Anyone who could create something to benefit so many people couldn’t be a bad person. She might be angry about what Sophie had said, but to say she would retaliate was too harsh.
However, she was certainly capable of teaching a junior a lesson.
“Don’t worry about that. I’m here.”
Sophie said, “I’m worried about you too, Dad. Even though you’re the oldest brother, my uncle is the one who calls the shots in this family.”
For the first time, Alexander smiled. “Stop borrowing trouble. No matter what happens, I won’t let you be wronged. Trust me, okay?”
Sophie replied, “Okay, then.”

Mr. Blackwell had wanted to say something, but after his son and daughter and their families had left, and seeing Adrian’s attitude toward Sophie, he realized it was a warning to them as well. There was nothing more to say, so he took Mrs. Blackwell to leave.
But Mrs. Blackwell wouldn't go.
“Don’t pull me.” She glared at Isabel. “It’s normal for a sick child to want their mother. Once he’s better, he’ll remember how much his grandparents and other relatives care for him. I’m warning you, don’t try to pull anything right now. If something happens to Oliver, I will never forgive you.”
Isabel was already annoyed, and their endless nagging wasn’t helping.
