“Dad, Mom is…” Samuel Langley began from the passenger seat. At fifteen, he was old enough to ride up front. When they left, Leon had directed Catherine to the back. Her temper had been bad lately, so he hadn’t joined her.

“It’s nothing,” Leon said, driving steadily without a glance in the rearview mirror.

Catherine kept calling Kate until the line went to voicemail, at which point she hurled her phone.

Catherine’s distant gaze snapped back to him, a flicker of panic in her eyes. “You… I don’t know what you’re talking about…”

Leon’s expression remained neutral as he switched to words she could understand. “Divorce is not a game. It involves deep ties between our families and our professional lives. There’s a lot to sort out. Until then, I hope you can keep calm and not give anyone an opening to exploit.”
