Isabel shot him a glare before turning to thank Amanda.

"Alright, let's not stand on ceremony."

They ate cake and sang songs.

Since Isabel couldn't drink yet, she stuck to juice.

Later, Dylan and Amanda had a bit too much to drink.

Isabel ended up driving them home one by one.

Thankfully, with an automatic car, driving with just her left hand was manageable. She could even use her right to shift gears now.

She dropped Amanda off first, whose husband was already waiting at the door to take her.

Amanda’s eyes were hazy as she slapped her hands heavily on her husband’s cheeks. “Andrew, if you dare cheat on me, I’ll castrate you!”

“...”

Isabel felt a wave of secondhand embarrassment and quickly turned to leave.

Next, she drove Dylan to his apartment.

She pulled the car into the underground parking garage, planning to call a cab home from there.

“Can you make it upstairs?” she asked the man in the passenger seat, whose eyes were closed.

Dylan didn't respond.

Isabel suspected he was faking. “I can’t help you up. My right hand hasn’t healed.”

The next second, Dylan’s eyes fluttered open.

Just as Isabel was about to get out and grab her things from the back, a hand pressed down on her shoulder.

She looked over.

Somehow, his face had gotten incredibly close to hers.

“Isabel...”

Isabel leaned back. “Don’t you dare throw up on me, or I swear I’ll bash your head in.”

Dylan suddenly grinned.

He had sharp canines that gave his smile a boyish charm, a surprising complement to his usual attitude.

Isabel just found it strange.

She’d never seen Dylan truly drunk before. Lab work required a clear head, so they always drank in moderation.

If he turned out to be a messy drunk, she really would bash his head in.

But Dylan pulled back, leaning against the seat and taking a deep breath. “Happy birthday,” he said. “You’re one year older.”

Isabel let out a forced laugh, her voice tight. “Oh, thank you so much.”

Isabel figured the rest of the Blackwells must know by now.

After all, old Mrs. Blackwell herself had drafted the divorce papers for her.

She just didn’t realize the news was so significant that Mrs. Blackwell would personally rush over to celebrate in front of her.

Then again, it wasn't surprising.

Mrs. Blackwell had been the most opposed to her marriage with Adrian.

And she was also the one who most wanted them to divorce.

“I’ve already signed the papers. I’m just waiting for Mr. Blackwell to let me know when we can finalize it.”

“If it’s convenient for you, Mrs. Blackwell, feel free to give him a little push.”

Adrian celebrating Selena’s birthday last night might have been kept from the public, but not from the Blackwell family.

Although she wanted Isabel and Adrian to divorce, Mrs. Blackwell couldn’t risk upsetting old Mrs. Blackwell while she was still alive.

As a daughter-in-law, she had intended to offer some words of comfort.

But it turned out the old matriarch didn’t need any.

Instead, she dropped a bombshell.

“Isabel and your son are getting a divorce. As for me, I don’t have much time left. If you want Selena to join this family, you’ll have to wait until I’m dead.”
