Besides, she was making them for herself.
Just as the countdown began, she placed some of them that needed baking into the oven.
The fragrant aroma quickly filled the small apartment.
Right as the clock was about to strike midnight, just as she was ready to eat, her phone rang.
It was exactly midnight when she answered.
“Hello?”
“It’s me.”
The familiar, deep voice of a man came through the receiver.
Isabel had already guessed who it was.
That was the only reason she’d answered.
She let out a sarcastic laugh. “Mr. Blackwell, it’s a new year. Don't you think it’s time we got that divorce?”
“Fine.”
Isabel froze, stunned by his immediate agreement.
But his next words made everything clear.
“Drop the charges against Selena, and I’ll fund a new laboratory for your research. Come to Halcyon Hills Residence tomorrow to sign the divorce papers.”
Isabel’s lips twisted into a smirk. She said nothing, simply ending the call.
Dylan had turned his head the moment he heard her say “Mr. Blackwell,” his eyes wide.
As soon as she hung up, he demanded, “What did he want?”
Isabel set her phone down, popped a dumpling in her mouth, and said, “What else? Cleaning up a mess for his precious darling.”
Dylan understood immediately. “What does he want you to do?”
“Nothing much. It’s all good news, actually. We can finally get divorced.”
A look of delight spread across Dylan’s face. “That’s fantastic.”

Isabel didn’t stay the night at old Mr. Foster’s place.
Even when Dylan mentioned Dr. Lawson was coming to check on her tomorrow, she insisted on leaving. She told him she would go sign the divorce papers and then check herself into the hospital for treatment.
It felt wrong to make a doctor make a house call on holiday.
She wasn’t someone as important as Adrian.
Dylan drove her home and informed Dr. Lawson of the change in plans.
“I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning.”
“Okay.”
Looking at the refreshed bedroom, the tension that had been gripping him for days finally eased a little.
He went downstairs for breakfast.
He sat down and took a sip of the coffee Martha had made.
It wasn't as good as Isabel's, but it was no longer as unpalatable as it had once been.
Across from him, Oliver was now eating Martha’s cooking without any resistance.
It just went to show that no one was irreplaceable.
“Daddy, are we going to see Auntie Selena later?”
“We promised to go to Disneyland.”
Adrian grunted in agreement. “I’ll head over as soon as I’m done with my work.”
Oliver swung his little legs happily.
Martha had no family of her own.
Unmarried and without children, she spent the holidays at Halcyon Hills Residence.
She hadn’t expected Adrian and Oliver to come back last night instead of staying at the main estate.
Fortunately, she had enough ingredients on hand to make them breakfast.
So that was the reason—he wanted to avoid the main estate and take Selena to Disneyland.
