Adrian had a meeting. After reviewing some documents in his office, he emerged, ready to head to the conference room.
He ran right into Daniel, who was pacing nervously outside the door.
The man frowned. “Did the holidays make you forget your job description?”
“No, it’s not that...” Daniel wiped the sweat from his forehead, hesitating. “It’s about your wife...”
Adrian’s voice grew even colder. “If you can’t do your job as my executive assistant, I’ll find someone who can.”
Steeling himself, Daniel relayed Isabel’s message, word for word.
But after hearing it, Adrian didn’t even acknowledge it with a grunt. He simply strode toward the conference room.
Even after all these years, Daniel couldn’t figure out what his boss was thinking.
For six years, he had traveled with him, both at home and abroad.
He knew better than anyone how distant Adrian’s relationship with Isabel was. He knew the marriage was forced upon him by old Mrs. Blackwell.
And during those two years abroad, he had witnessed things between Adrian and Selena.
So...
Wasn’t getting a divorce what Adrian had always wanted, what he had been anxious to do?
Why was he dragging it out now?
But the mind of the CEO was not for him to decipher.
And the CEO’s affairs were not for him to manage.
He had delivered the message. That was all he could do.

Isabel raised her hand, and Selena flinched, covering her face.
Peeking through her fingers, she saw Isabel give a disdainful smirk as the crumpled paper towel landed perfectly in the trash can.
“...”
Selena’s expression soured.
But Isabel just smiled, her eyes cool and clear. “Adrian and I have no relationship to mend. We’ve already signed the divorce papers. The lab he’s funding is for you. This lab, Lab 1, was originally mine, and it will be mine again.”
“So, are you going to walk out on your own, or do I have to throw you out?”
Selena bit her lip, looking as if she were being bullied. “Isabel, research is serious business. You got into this lab because of Mr. Foster’s connections, but in the few days you’ve been here, you haven’t learned a thing. I don’t blame you for not knowing any better. But you can’t use Mr. Foster’s influence to kick out a capable researcher like me. This isn’t a playground. You saw what happened when I was just a little careless with a test tube—you got hurt. What if you mess something up and burn the whole lab down?”
Isabel pointed to the security camera. “How about we let the entire internet see how you ‘accidentally’ poured that solution on my hand? They’re all amateur detectives. They might dig up a few other things, like your real background, or your true relationship with Adrian. Once you’re labeled as the other woman, you won’t even be able to set foot in this building, let alone Lab 1.”
