But when she mentioned the five percent stake, the words caught in her throat.

The Blackwell Group.

Five percent of its shares.

That was enough to live comfortably for several lifetimes without ever having to work again.

It was an astronomical sum.

And as long as the Blackwell Group stood, the money would keep flowing in.

But her heart still ached for Isabel. She gritted her teeth and said, “Even if he paid you a fortune, it doesn’t make it right. They’re two separate issues.”

“I know,” Isabel said, trying to soothe her. “I have a plan. Trust me.”

Amanda rolled her eyes. “I’m not so sure I can trust you right now. Remember when you were so determined to give up your career for marriage? I told you it was a bad idea, but you wouldn’t listen. And look where that got you.”

Isabel hugged her. “That was a one-time mistake. I promise.”

What else could Amanda say? “You’re not lifting a finger. Just stand there and watch. I made Braised Beef Ribs with Red Wine today, and you’re going to drink every last drop!”

“Yes, yes, of course,” Isabel readily agreed.

The dinner at Amanda’s house marked the end of the holiday season.

On the eighth day of the holiday, everyone returned to work.

Isabel took the initiative and called Daniel to ask about the divorce proceedings.

Daniel was surprised that she was following up so soon after the holidays.

But he hadn’t received any new instructions yet.

“Mrs. Blackwell, please give me a moment to call you back. I’ve just arrived at the office and need to organize my schedule for the day.”

Isabel urged him to get back to her as soon as possible.

He hung up and went into the CEO’s office.

Adrian had also just arrived. The new year brought the first signs of spring, and the temperature had started to rise.

He had shed his overcoat, wearing only a perfectly tailored three-piece black suit. His tie was knotted impeccably, and not a single crease marred his clothes. He exuded an air of aristocratic coldness.

Daniel was taken aback by how quickly she saw through him.

But he assumed that after six years as a housewife, she wouldn't understand the inner workings of a large corporation.

So he continued his fabrication with confidence. “The company has its own procedures and regulations. If the paperwork isn’t handled properly, it could lead to trouble during an audit or tax inspection.”

Isabel could tell he was just giving her the runaround.

She didn’t bother asking whether getting the shares or the cash would be faster.

“Give Adrian a message for me. If this isn’t resolved within a week and I don’t have my marriage certificate back, the video of his precious darling injuring me will be all over the internet.”

The lab had security cameras.

She wasn't going to be a doormat forever.

With that, Isabel hung up.

Daniel broke out in a cold sweat.

How was he supposed to deliver that message?
