"Are you saying... Ruby might become the next head of the Steele family?"

Morgan finally looked serious, his typically inscrutable and somber face now etched with shock and astonishment.

"Yes. And the Steele family is still in Quinborough. When they return to The Capital, they'll likely take Ruby with them."

Gennifer pursed her lips.

Morgan pushed his chair back, making a move to leave, while muttering under his breath, "All Domingo has to do is testify against you for unlawful imprisonment. Even if Ruby does inherit the Steele family fortune, you'll have to wait until you're out of prison to get your piece of the pie. Who knows if an old man like you will even live long enough to see it."

Morgan's words were like a curse, grating on Hanley's ears.

His face turned ashen. Finally, just as Morgan took a step, Hanley slammed his hand on the table in frustration. "Fine!"

Morgan stopped in his tracks, his feet frozen to the spot.

"Wait for my news."
