Natalie’s pupils constricted, but she stood her ground.
Just as the speeding car was about to hit her, she leaped, using her immense strength to vault herself onto the hood.
The front of the car slammed violently into the bridge. The inertia sent Natalie flying, and she crashed hard against the bridge structure.
The impact left her head blank, her entire body wracked with pain.
A moment later, her head was ringing.
But her survival instincts took over. She forced herself to endure the excruciating pain and looked up at the man in the driver’s seat. He was staring back at her with a cruel, almost eerie smile.
Natalie frowned. He had done it on purpose.
But who was this man?
She didn't recognize him at all.
Her vision was blurry, and pain shot through her entire body. She sat slumped on the hood, trying to remember who the man in the car was.
“Quick, call an ambulance!”
Two traffic police officers on duty under the bridge had witnessed the scene and were now running over to help.
Seeing them, Natalie felt a glimmer of hope.
The piercing pain in her body was unbearable.
When the officers reached her, she managed to say, “Please take me to Hospital. Thank you.”
And then she passed out.
A news crew happened to be in the area reporting on traffic accidents. They captured the entire incident on camera and posted it online.
Marshall saw the news and realized it was his cousin, Maxwell Spencer, who had hit Natalie. He was at home, getting ready to go to the banquet.
He roared in anger, “Grandma, that bastard Maxwell has gone too far!”
Mrs. Spencer Sr. watched the news report of the arrogant Maxwell, a strange light glinting in her eyes. “Marshall, they have always coveted the position of heir. For years, he has never given up on that ambition. Think about it, if Natalie hadn't intervened in our family’s affairs, who would have been the biggest beneficiary?”
Marshall’s heart skipped a beat, a look of horror on his face. “Grandma, without Natalie’s intervention, Joanna would have succeeded, and his family would have been the biggest winners.”
Mrs. Spencer Sr., seeing that he wasn’t a complete fool, nodded in satisfaction. “Exactly. If she hadn’t gotten involved, you and your father would have been in trouble long ago. And if something happened to you both, your mother and I wouldn’t have been able to hold on. He would have swooped in, colluded with Joanna, and the Spencer family would have been finished.”
“Look at Maxwell’s arrogance. He did it on purpose. But why was Natalie on that bridge?”
“Grandma, I’ll go check on Natalie.”
Mrs. Spencer Sr. nodded slightly. “Go. Since we’ve chosen to stand with Natalie, you must protect both her and yourself.”
