The inside of the place was very…unique. They didn't have chairs and tables like the normal coffee shops do, they had this huge sofas, facing the giant windows with a view on the fishing pond. The place was made almost entirely out of glass. So bright.
We sat on the squishy sofa, waiting for the waiter in silence. I really had no idea what to say. With Lucas was different, it felt like I knew him for a hundred years, and yet with the boy who smiled all the time was harder to talk to.
"And what is the lovely couple having?" A waitress approached us.
I nervously smiled and ordered a cup of blueberry tea.
"I'll have coffee with milk." Said Jimmy "You sure you don't want anything else?" He raised the eyebrow with a piercing.
"Nah, I'm good." I shrugged.
After the waiter left us alone in the injuring silence, Jimmy finally spoke.
"I guess you're wondering why I asked you out?" He started.
"Yeah, because Lucas-" I quickly bit my tongue. Damn!
"Lucas?" He widened his eyes in a surprise. "No, I meant because I lik-" He did a half smile. "You mean why I asked you out, even though you're Lucas's girl?"
I fiercely shook my head. "No, no I'm not Lucas's girl! He and I…I mean I know that nothing could happen, not that I'd want it too…"
He sadly smiled. "I would never steal Lucas's girl. It's just that…" He looked at me and lowered his head, looking away from me. "Skye, Lucas doesn't have girlfriends. He never had one."
"Not even one? But, he must've have at least one…" I was more shocked than surprised. Lucas Dashwood never had a girlfriend?
"No, he can't…" He stopped as if he said something he shouldn't. "I mean, he was never in love. He said he would only date someone he'd be in love with."
That was it. That's why he wouldn't…with me…He just wasn't in love with me. I felt a sudden pain in my chest.
How many times can one person break your heart?
I smiled to hide my pain. "I said I don't care about him. Besides now I'm with you…on a date. Now it's about us." The words were coming from my mouth, but not from my heart.
He laughed and took the hat off, ruffling his bright hair. "He's got a nickname for you, right?"
"Yeah. Lil' kitty." I snorted.
Jimmy smiled. "Lil' kitty." Somehow it didn't sound right. Not coming from Jimmy's mouth, or anybody else's. Only Lucas could call me like that. Even if he was breaking my heart.
I quickly changed the subject. "So, how's Peanut Butter?"
We talked and we laughed for a few hours in the Boathouse, once the conversation started it was easy. I really liked Jimmy, he was nice and kind and thoughtful…I did really like him. As a friend.
He walked me to the bus stop. It was almost 8:30pm. The sun hid a long time ago, and the cold darkness embraced the city. First stars appeared on the sky. Like diamonds in the heartless night.
Get dressed.
Feed Ash.
Catch the bus on a cold morning.
Walk to school.
See Lucas and Jimmy arguing.
Wait, what?
Lucas was yelling at Jimmy, and Jimmy didn't want to owe him so he yelled right back at him. I ran towards them, interested in what caused this fight, but before I could reach them, Lucas already noticed me. He said something to Jimmy and walked away.
He seemed angry, I saw him clenching his fists as he passed me. He didn't even look at me. He just walked away, his face grimaced in pain.
Jimmy was angrily ruffling his hair, looking somewhat surprised.
What the hell happened?
Jimmy finally noticed me. He looked at me, fixing the hat on his head. "Skye." Jimmy's brows pulled together unhappily.
