In as much as Jayda was going through something delicate that made her want to spend all day in bed and continue crying where she left off, she had a job to attend to so that alone made her reluctantly get up from her bed as soon as her alarm buzzed. She did her morning rituals, changed into professional wear and exited her apartment.
Jayda was mute all day. She only opened her mouth to give one-word instructions or one-word answers. She was happy the work she had to do made her forget about the pregnancy, even though it was only for a while.
She had her cousin order lunch for her. Fortunately, she had some appetite today and she shed a tear when she remembered the food she was eating would be split into two. Half would go to her and the other half would go to the little human growing in her. She could not believe a baby was growing inside her and most of all, she knew nothing about being a mother.
After lunch, Jayda buried herself with work-related matters and eventually left the office at 7.45 pm. For some unknown reason, she felt like eating Chinese so she made a stop at a Chinese restaurant and ordered some takeaway.
Jayda let out a sigh as soon as she saw Lilian's car parked outside her apartment. Since she found out about the pregnancy, She refused to answer anybody's call that wasn't work-related and she had no doubt that was why Lily, her best friend was at her place. She was definitely worried about her.
As soon Jayda unlocked her door, she came face to face with Lilian who had her arms folded over her chest with a worried face.
Lilian was about to lash out on Jayda for ignoring her calls which made her worried but she swallowed her words when she took in Jayda's appearance.
Her eyes were swollen and she looked pretty tired. She wasn't looking like her usual cheerful self.
Lilian paved the way for her to come in and then shut the door behind her. Jayda placed her handbag on one of the sofas in the living room and made her way to the kitchen where she placed the Chinese she bought on the counter. Then she went back to the living room to join Lilian.
"I was really worried about you. For a while, I thought I did something that made you mad at me."
"If there's anyone I'm mad at right now. It's me. I can never be mad at you Lily." She said with heavy tears.
"Then what is wrong? Did Sebastian hurt you again?" Lilian asked, concerned as she took her best friend's hand in hers.
A tear rolled down Jayda's cheek which she wiped off immediately with the back of her palm. She was thinking of what to say to Lilian.
Jayda's reaction only made Lilian more worried.
"My life has been a mess since the day Zach broke up with me and it couldn't get any worse now."
With a worried look, Lilian nodded, encouraging Jayda to continue what she was saying.
Jayda swallowed painfully in tears. "I... Sebastian....tha....at night...Lilian, I'm pregnant." She said before burying her face in Lily's chest and crying her eyes out.
Shocked would be an understatement to describe Lilian's reaction. She sat still for a while, replaying what Jayda said.
She came back to reality and consoled her best friend who was sobbing against her chest.
She patted her back. "Please calm down Jayda, I know this is unexpected but crying won't solve anything."
Jayda removed her head from Lily's chest. "Why is life being unfair to me? It was just a one night stand and here I am expecting a baby of your so-called cruel cousin."
"I thought you took some after pill," Lilian said with a confused look.
"I did. I took them Lily but it didn't work. I'm such a fool for going to bed with Sebastian without making sure he was protected. If only I had come to my apartment straight from Zach's house, this would not be happening to me."
"Please don't be too hard on yourself. Everybody makes mistakes." Lilian comforted.
"I know everyone makes mistakes but this mistake is beyond me, Lily. I'm not ready to be a mother." She sniffed.
"Have you been to the Doctors? When did you find out?" Lilian asked as she wiped a tear from Jayda's face.
"I've been feeling weird for days, Mom noticed too so we talked and she made me realize I could be pregnant. I denied because I was sure the after pill I used worked."
"For some reason, I couldn't stop thinking about the conversation with mom so I stopped by a pharmacy on my way home yesterday and the tests turned out positive."
"Perhaps he was mad because he didn't get the chance to throw his pair of shoes at me as I did to him. I really do not want to think about him right now and neither do I expect so much from him. I want to focus on myself and what's next for me. I'll know what to do after my visit to my Doctor."
"Should I come with you to the appointment?" Lilian offered.
"Tomorrow is Tuesday, what will happen to your meetings?" Jayda asked.
"I can make an excuse. I'll tell them something came up."
"Don't worry Lily, I'll be fine," Jayda assured.
"Are you sure?" Lilian asked with a sad face. Jayda nodded.
"Okay, my work clothes are in the guest room. I'm crashing here tonight and perhaps for the rest of the week. Hopefully, nothing will come up that will require me to return to my apartment."
"Thank you, I'll appreciate your company because I really need to be pampered."
"So did you call your mom to tell her she was right all along?" Lilian asked.
"Mom knows. She knew the moment she saw me but she didn't push the matter because of how reluctant I was to accept the fact that She could be right. But I will call her tomorrow."
"Everything will be fine, you'll do just great," Lilian assured.
"I guess talking to you about it made me feel better. I'll begin to look at the positive side of everything and try my best to cope." Jayda confessed.
Lilian decided to cheer Jayda up by teasing her. "I'm so jealous of your unborn child right now. He is not even born yet and he's richer than me. You and Sebastian have this great intelligence; he is drop-dead gorgeous and you're beautiful. Just imagine how perfect your baby will be." She said which made Jayda blush.
"Whatever! I don't just want him or her to have Sebastian's attitude."
