“How far have you gone?” Xander asked dryly.

“Ten kilometers!” Shawn huffed.

“That’s all?”

“Why don’t you try it? If you’re so tough, go hike ten kilometers up a mountain next time. Let’s see how cocky you are then!”

Shawn could barely keep it together. They hadn’t let him take the easy path; if it had been the main road, he’d have finished ages ago. But, no, it had to be a winding mountain trail. At this point, Shawn’s legs felt like they’d been run through a meat grinder—agony with every step.

“Come pick me up!” he demanded.

This was insane. He’d been walking for hours and was still only halfway done.

Without another word, Xander hung up. Shawn could only stare at his phone as the busy tone echoed in his ear, feeling completely abandoned.

“Unbelievable. Ditch your friends for a girl, huh?” he muttered, fuming with frustration.
