Dane's POV
The healer stood frozen for a moment, her eyes wide in pure shock.
"Y-your… mate?" she stammered, glancing at the unconscious woman on my bed like she was seeing a miracle. "Alpha Dane… are you certain?"
I didn't even blink.
"Yes," I said firmly. "I'm certain."
My wolf growled in approval, pacing inside me like a protective beast ready to tear down mountains.
The healer swallowed, shook herself out of her trance, and rushed to the bed. She placed her bag down and leaned over my mate, checking her pulse, her breathing, and her skin temperature.
All the while, I couldn't stop staring at her.
My mate.
Her lashes fluttered slightly when the healer lifted her wrist. Her lips parted softly when the healer checked her breathing. A quiet whimper escaped her throat when the healer touched the silver collar.
The healer hissed softly. "Who put this on her?"
"Alpha Malvin," I said sharply. "Or someone from his pack."
Her face twisted with disgust. "This is forbidden magic. No wolf should wear this."
I clenched my fists until my knuckles. My blood boiled just imagining someone forcing this on her.
The healer touched her forehead gently. "She is exhausted. Severely. Her wolf has been fighting behind this collar, and her human body could not keep up."
"Will she be okay?" I asked quietly.
"Yes," the healer nodded. "She fainted from fatigue, fear, and a suppressed wolf spirit. With rest—and once that collar is removed—she will return to normal."
My chest loosened slightly.
Thank the moon goddess.
The healer packed some herbs into a bowl and placed them on the nightstand. "I will prepare a special tea. Once she wakes, she can take it. She will need plenty of sleep and water."
"Thank you," I murmured.
She bowed slightly, respecting my tone. "Call me if she wakes or if anything changes."
As she walked toward the door, I sat closer to my mate, brushing her hair away from her face again.
My fingers trembled slightly. Why? Because touching her felt unreal. Sacred. Important.
I stared at her for a long moment.
Who was she? Why was she running? Why did Malvin want her? Why was she wearing a collar meant to suppress a wolf?
So many questions. No answers.
Only pain in her eyes… and fear in her scent.
Suddenly—
She moved.
Her fingers twitched. Her lashes fluttered. Her breathing changed.
I leaned closer, heart pounding.
Her eyes opened slowly… wide… scared… confused… darting around the room as if she didn't know where she was.
She shot upright, panicked.
I instantly put a hand on her shoulder—not forceful, not tight, just enough to ground her.
"Hey. Hey… calm down," I said softly. "You're safe. No one will hurt you here."
Her eyes—God, her eyes—finally met mine.
She blinked rapidly, trembling.
"You… you were the man…" she whispered, voice shaking. "Y-you saved me…"
"Yes," I said gently. "I did."
The healer stepped back respectfully. "I will leave you two alone, Alpha."
She slipped out the door quietly.
My mate's eyes darted around again as if checking for danger. Her breathing was uneven, her hands trembling where they rested in her lap.
"It's okay," I repeated softly. "You're safe with me."
She swallowed, finally relaxing a little.
"What's your name?" I asked quietly.
She hesitated, looking down at her hands.
"Lila," she whispered.
"Lila," I repeated softly. "It suits you."
She fidgeted nervously. "Where… where am I?"
"You're in my pack," I answered. "Snow Moon Pack."
Her eyes widened slightly.
"That's… that's far from here."
"Yes," I nodded. "We're nowhere near Malvin."
The moment I said his name, she flinched violently, fear striking her face.
"Please…" she whispered, gripping the blanket. "Please don't send me back to him. Please… please don't let them take me back…"
Her voice cracked into a sob.
My chest burned.
I leaned closer. "Look at me."
She lifted her terrified eyes.
"No one… is sending you anywhere," I said firmly. "Especially not to him."
Her lips trembled as if she didn't believe it.
"I promise you," I whispered, voice deepening with Alpha command. "You are safe."
Gradually, her shoulders loosened, and she let out a shaky breath.
Her scent grew softer again—still sweet, still warm, still intoxicating—but no longer sharp with terror.
I hesitated for a moment… then said the words I knew she needed to hear.
"We're mates."
She froze.
Completely.
Her eyes went wide. Her lips parted. Her breath hitched. Her whole body stiffened.
"M-mates?" she whispered. "But… but that's not possible. I can't be… I can't be mated to an Alpha."
My wolf snarled inside me—angry at her doubt, angry she thought so little of her worth.
"It's possible," I said calmly. "It's real. The only reason you didn't feel it is that your wolf is trapped behind that collar."
She slowly lifted her hand to touch the collar, wincing when the silver burned her fingers.
"It's… a dream," she whispered numbly. "It has to be. This can't be real."
"It's not a dream," I said gently, taking her hand before she burned herself again. "This is real, Lila."
Her throat bobbed as she swallowed.
