"What did you just say..."

The smile completely vanished from Kurt's face, a frosty chill freezing over his eyes.

"The person you're in love with is Ebony Fox, isn't it?" Monique yelled hysterically. "When I went to see her last time, she put on quite the act, playing dumb with me."

"This has nothing to do with her. Don't talk about her like that."

Kurt glanced back at the closed bathroom door, forcing his voice to remain steady, though it came out hoarse. "I'm heading back now."

"Beep, beep—"

Monique abruptly hung up the phone, collapsing onto the sofa, gasping for breath.

"Monique~"

Seeing the older woman's furious expression, Annie was highly satisfied, though she hid it flawlessly beneath a mask of innocence. "Maybe I should leave. If Kurt finds out I told you, he'll be furious with me."

"Yes, yes, you should go for now." Monique patted Annie's hand, forcing a tight smile. "Once I sort this mess out, I'll make sure Kurt comes back to you."

"Okay."

Annie nodded, slipping in one last reminder before she left. "Monique, that Ebony Fox is quite manipulative. She's somehow convinced Kurt to willingly act like her personal servant."

"You have to be careful with your words, don't let her provoke you."

Hearing this, Monique's blood boiled even hotter.

Her son hadn't even served her a bowl of soup in his entire life.

Yet here he was, out there waiting on some other woman hand and foot.

What an ungrateful son.

Annie arched an eyebrow, laughing inwardly to herself.

Having Monique handle this was far better than dirtying her own hands.

She would simply wait for them to get rid of that older woman, and then she'd swoop in to mend her relationship with Kurt.

Men were all the same...

They loved whoever was in front of them; there was no such thing as eternal loyalty.

Once Ebony Fox calmed down.

She opened the bathroom door, only to find Kurt standing outside, holding her slippers.

Without a word.

He dropped to one knee, gently grasping her ankle, and slipped the footwear onto her foot.
