Monique was so enraged she could barely breathe. Snatching a throw pillow from the sofa, she hurled it violently at him.

He let out a cold chuckle, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "From what I remember, when Grandpa wanted you to marry that other man, you cried and screamed like it was the end of the world."

Monique opened her mouth to defend herself but didn't even know where to start.

Kurt averted his gaze, checking his phone. "If you're done, I'm leaving."

"I've said my piece, now tell me what you're going to do," she demanded coldly.

Stopping in his tracks, he turned back to look at his mother, enunciating every word clearly. "I heard exactly what you said, but I am not breaking up with Ebony Fox."

"Not only am I not leaving her, but I'm also going to marry her."

"Marry her?"

Monique's brain practically short-circuited. Had she just wasted her entire evening talking to a brick wall?!

She chased him out to the doorway, her voice turning venomous. "You want to be with her so badly? Fine! Hand over your credit cards, and give me the keys to the condo and the car!"

Kurt paused. After a few seconds of silence, he pulled out his wallet.

Taking only his ID out, he tossed the designer wallet onto the entryway table.

"Cancel the cards. As for the condo and the car, I won't be using them anymore."

He stared back at his mother with an exhausted expression. "What else do you want me to leave behind? My life? Do you want that too?"

Monique's throat tightened; she couldn't force a single syllable out.
