"That brat..."

Watching Channing's proud, retreating figure, the old man chuckled helplessly.

"Sir, your words just now really stabbed him right in the heart."

"I just..." The old man froze for a few seconds before realization dawned on him. He scratched his head and muttered defensively, "You're right. I'll apologize to that little punk later."

Six years...

And still not catching her.

He was really starting to doubt if he'd ever get to hold a great-grandchild.

While they were talking, they suddenly saw Conrad approaching with Zachary in tow.

"Sir, Mr. Zachary is here," the steward stiffened slightly and whispered a reminder.

Seeing his two disappointing descendants approaching, the old man's smile vanished instantly, his face dropping into a scowl.

"Father." Conrad greeted him respectfully. When he didn't hear the person behind him follow suit, he frowned and looked back. "Say hello."

Zachary's face was equally sour, clearly unwilling to offer a greeting.

He knew perfectly well that his grandfather's favorite had always been Channing. As for him, the eldest grandson, he had never received anything but cold looks.

Not only that, the old man had nearly beaten him to death with his cane back in the day.

Since he didn't like him anyway, why should he bother trying to please him?

"Say it," Conrad ordered sharply.

"Grandfather." Zachary pressed his lips together and forced the word out reluctantly.

There wasn't a trace of respect in his tone.

"Enough." The old man scoffed coldly, his expression stern. "If you don't want to greet me, then don't. Who are you putting on this miserable act for?"

Zachary kept a cold face, looking away.

"While he was abroad all these years, Zachary really did miss you," Conrad tried to smooth things over.

"Missed me? You mean he wished I'd die sooner!" the old man exposed mercilessly. "I'm tired. I'm going to rest. Handle this birthday banquet yourself."

The old man leaned heavily on his cane and stood up. Before leaving, his gaze landed on Zachary. "Now that you're back, keep your head down. Don't go pulling any of your old stunts."

"I have zero tolerance for nonsense."
