Zachary gritted his teeth, forcing the words out one by one.
"I will."
Channing replied evenly, not bothering to spare him another glance as he walked away.
The remaining guests exchanged uneasy looks.
For a moment.
No one knew if they were supposed to keep eating or not.

Leaving the banquet, Channing headed straight to his grandfather's room.
"Who is it!"
Hearing the knock, the old man quickly tried to shove his secret stash of fried chicken under the bed.
"Stop pretending."
Channing walked in, a faint smirk tugging at his lips as he spoke.
The old man looked momentarily embarrassed before quietly pulling out the half-eaten chicken. "I only had two pieces!"
"That's enough."
Channing confiscated the rest of the box, his tone turning strict. "From now on, you're only allowed this once a month."
"No way!"
"No way?" Channing stared at him deeply, his tone casual yet firm. "Then when I have a child, I won't let you hold them."
"A great-grandchild?"
The old man froze for a few seconds before asking in confusion, "Where is this great-grandchild? Don't tell me she's pregnant?"
"No."
Channing replied quite seriously, "Just because there isn't one now doesn't mean there won't be. It's bound to happen eventually."
"You little brat, making empty promises again, aren't you?"
The old man grumbled, but deep down, he desperately wished for that day to come.
Channing had been far too lonely growing up.
It would be wonderful if he could finally have family who truly loved him.
"The doctor already examined me; there's absolutely nothing wrong with my health."
The old man knew why Channing had come back and softened his voice. "You've been back for days now, you must be missing her."
"Go back. You have nothing to worry about here with me."
"I'll have the steward take you in for regular check-ups."
Channing sat across from him, his voice heavy. "While I'm gone, you are not to eat junk food. Take good care of yourself."
"Once I finish my work, I'll come back to visit you."
"Next time you come back, I hope you won't be alone."
