"The Boss hasn't been feeling well lately. Keep irrelevant people away from her, understood?"

The manager was stunned for a moment before instantly catching on.

With Mr. Irving playing the role of the favorite companion, the manager's salary had multiplied, and the perks just kept rolling in.

If another boy toy took his place...

Who knew what kind of nonsense they'd whisper in Ms. Quill's ear.

Weighing the two, he much preferred Mr. Irving.

"Understood."

The manager nodded hastily, his tone resolute. "I absolutely will not let any irrelevant people near Ms. Quill."

After all, Ms. Quill's attitude toward the new guy was remarkably cold anyway.

"Thanks."

Channing's lips twitched slightly, his voice low. "I heard you've been stressing over a down payment for your son's new house lately?"

"Ah?" The manager was startled again, stammering, "How... how did you know about that, Mr. Irving?"

"There's a great plot of land in the East Suburbs. The location is excellent. Consider it an early wedding gift from me."

"Mr. Irving, I couldn't possibly!"

Land in the East Suburbs was exorbitantly expensive. He couldn't afford it even if he worked his entire life.

"It's settled."

Channing didn't say anything else. He hung up the phone and returned to the bedroom.

Coralie was curled up under the covers, sleeping deeply.

It was a sleeping posture completely devoid of a sense of security.

Whenever he slept beside her, she would instinctively bury herself in his embrace.

Channing sat by the bed, leaned over, and pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"I know what you're afraid of, but it's okay."

"I'll give you time to accept it. If a year isn't enough, then ten years. If ten years isn't enough, then a lifetime."

Time was the one thing he had an abundance of.

He could spend every single second of this lifetime waiting for her.

——

The next day.

Coralie woke up, sitting on the bed as she tried to figure out how to ditch Channing so she could get to the hospital.
