James was starting to regret his decision. He probably shouldn’t have let his mother-in-law and Andrew hang around earlier. But since their biggest reason for rushing home was the kids, he couldn’t justify keeping them longer for his own selfish reasons.

He glanced at his wife, stubborn as ever, still clearly embarrassed about what happened earlier. With a heavy sigh, James reluctantly put the red dress away.

“All right, you don’t have to put it on if you don’t want to.”

Still, he told himself there would be plenty of opportunities ahead. With enough time, he’d find a way to convince her to wear it, just for him.

Emmy had no clue that the red slip dress she just rejected would end up haunting James. From then on, whether he was heading out on a business trip or packing for a holiday, that little splash of red always found its way into his suitcase. Even though Emmy stayed far away from the red slip dress that night, it did nothing to stop the two of them from diving headfirst into a night that was the definition of shameless. When she finally drifted awake, sunlight was already sneaking in through the curtains, harsh and blinding. Still half-asleep, she reached for her phone.

If she didn’t count the time James was away for work and the time she absolutely passed out, he’d been at it for nearly a whole day and night without stopping.

That was when she felt the blanket shift behind her. A big, warm hand slid over, definite and full of intent, locking around her waist. James pressed behind her, breath warm at the back of her neck, his voice low and rough with sleep but still impossibly energetic.

“Awake?” he teased.

Even as he spoke, his hand started wandering again. It was obvious he wasn’t done.

Emmy instantly panicked. She woke with a jolt, grabbing his wandering hand, her voice trembling. “Stop… Please stop! I can’t. I really can’t…”
